Acknowledge mind power. Listen to what your mind says as you sit to tackle those ‘oh-so-difficult’ subjects. Our mind is the most powerful tool that we have. According to Napoleon Hill, ‘whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.’ We are in constant conversation with our mind. So if your mind tells you, ‘God, I can’t get this into my head! I am never going to remember this’ chances are that it well happen just like that! Instead try saying, I am going to understand this. I am going to finish this chapter in half an hour.’ We act according to what the mind thinks. So the more positive things we say to ourselves (what we call positive self-talk) the more positive things happen to us. Be positive. Being in a happy frame of mind as studying (and at all other times) is essential. Put aside other distractions and disturbing thoughts and worries. If you are not in the mood to study, remember a time when you had the greatest concentration, when you studied something brilliantly and remembered it well, and tell yourself (as you relive the memory) that you are going to study like that now. You will find you can then study well.
