Toxic symptoms are not common and idiosyncrasy should normally be detected by first giving a trial dose. The symptoms are similar to those of quinine or salicylate poisoning, i.e. headache, tinnitus, blurring of vision, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and occasionally mental disturbances. Purport may occur. Rarely, sudden death has been reported from cardiac standstill or ventricular fibrillation. Warning signs may be disclosed by serial electrocardiograms, notably widening of the QRS interval.
